Be the good, not the bad or the ugly

Everywhere everyone turns they are being inundated with the good, the bad, and the ugly in the world throughout this COVID-19 pandemic and it is important to remember that we need to do everything possible to be the good during this time, rather than the bad or the ugly.
Now more than ever, as we move into the Easter weekend, it is crucial to remember that a little bit of kindness and compassion can go a long way. Remember that a little bit of understanding, a helping hand, and some faith can do the same.
As we spend our time indoors, for weeks at a time, it is easy to become involved in what others are doing. It is easy to see that we have become a community that is quick to call others out and recognize the potential negatives in every situation.
People have been quick to call out people with out-of-state plates on Facebook, assuming they are here with nefarious intentions and spreading disease. And to point fingers at those people who are leaving the grocery stores with carts full of food have become easy targets with people claiming they are hoarding.
Newspapers across the country and state have made it their mission to share the good throughout this situation. From stories of community members making masks to Easter egg hunts using decorations in the windows to help give kids some sense of normalcy throughout this situation and those who showed up for the town’s recent blood drive.
These are the stories that should be celebrated. These are the things we should be talking about.
Let’s talk about the teachers who are working tirelessly to maintain education in this unprecedented time. Let’s talk about the restaurants and businesses that have had to adjust the way they work to continue serving the public during this pandemic.
Let us come together, although apart, and offer support for those who are on the frontline battling this virus, treating those who face other health issues during this time and have to constantly worry about what they are bringing home to their families.
Right now everyone is living life like they have never done before. Our worlds have been flipped upside down. We have been locked in our houses and told to ignore one of our main human instincts, to connect with others.
Today and everyday it is important to remember that right now we are all just trying to survive and make it through these months with our sanity. We are all adjusting to a world that is changing daily and uncertainties that we have never faced.
We are all living a story right now, a story that will one day grace the pages of history books across the world. We are all in this together, apart.
