LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 13, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls conclude their week at home with a 2 p.m., Saturday contest against San Jose State. This will be Wyoming’s final home Saturday game of the season.
Saturday will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (15-9, 9-3 MW) opened the week with a 64-56 win over Air Force Wednesday evening. Allyson Fertig logged her 12th 20-plus point game of the season with a 30-point effort on 12-of-14 shooting against the Falcons. Fertig also grabbed 15 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of 2024-25. Malene Pedersen added 20 points of her own on 7-for-11 shooting while making three of the Cowgirls’ six made 3-pointers in the contest. This marks the fourth time this season that a pair of Cowgirl teammates have scored 20-or-more in the same game. The last time Wyoming accomplished that four times in a season was 2013-14.
Fertig is now 26 rebounds shy of the program record for most career rebounds. Entering Thursday’s action around the country, Fertig is the only player in the nation averaging at least 20 points per game and shooting at least 60-percent from the floor in conference games. Fertig leads the Mountain West in league play in scoring (20.3), rebounding (9.7), blocks (2.2) and field goal percentage (61.1).
Pedersen ranks 10th in the league in scoring in MW play and trails only Fertig in field goal percentage, as she shoots it at a 54-percent clip. Pedersen, along with Ola Ustowska, are tied for third in the conference with a 3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. Ustowska and Emily Mellema rank fourth (4.1 APG) and sixth, (3.6 APG) respectively in assists per game in the Mountain West while Pedersen is seventh. Mellema also leads the league averaging 2.6 steals per contest.
As a team, UW is fourth in the conference in scoring at 68.8 points per game and is first in defense, allowing just 59.7 points per game. The Cowgirls’ 50.2-percent team field goal percentage in Mountain West games leads the league, as do their 17.8 assists per game. Wyoming is second in the MW with a plus-5.17 rebounding margin and in blocks per game (3.83).
SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE
San Jose State is led by Amiah Simmons’ 13.5 points per game. She is the only Spartan scoring in double figures. Sydni Summers is second on the squad at 9.8 points per game and leads the Spartans with 56 made 3-pointers and 64 assists. Finau Tonga and Djessira Diawara both average 5.8 rebounds per contest to lead San Jose State. Jasmine Singleton has a team-high 34 steals this season. The Spartans have eight players averaging at least 5.3 points per game.
