LARAMIE, Wyo. (1/22/25) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams are set to take on Mountain West and WAC conference foe UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s action is slated to begin at 6 p.m. and Saturday’s events are scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m.

Both the Cowgirls and Cowboys added to their win columns earlier this week, defeating Colorado School of Mines on Monday.

The Cowgirls remain undefeated in dual action, with a glistening 7-0 overall record and 3-0 in Mountain West competition. Earning a win over conference opponent UNLV this weekend would not only further their undefeated season thus far but would also provide a huge boost of momentum and buzz with the Mountain West Championships right around the corner in February.

“UNLV women have always been just ahead of us when it comes to conference championships when it goes well,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “I think that’s something where if we can get a win this weekend it’ll give them confidence going in that they are capable of beating UNLV. The Mountain West Conference is just stacked this year, especially with the addition of Washington State. I think it’s going to be a very close meet and we’re looking for any opportunity we can gain to just build confidence in our races and our strategy.”

The Cowboys are eager to face a WAC conference opponent this weekend, as their only conference dual meet this season took place in a win against Air Force back in early November. Denniston is expecting his team to put their best foot forward and compete hard against the Rebels.

“I think UNLV continues to be the top favorite in the WAC for men,” Denniston said. “We want to have a good showing and go race-to-race and toe-to-toe with them as much as we can. We’ll celebrate the victories when we can get them, but I think there’s going to be some really close races. They have more depth than us but at the same time I think our top ends match up pretty well on several events and we’re looking forward to winning a few of those races.”

After the two-day dual against UNLV, the Pokes next compete against Utah on Friday, Jan. 31 in Green River, Wyo. as a UW outreach event.
