SHERIDAN — President Donald Trump authorized a strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.

The authorization comes as conflict escalates between Iran and longtime U.S. ally Israel.

Trump addressed the nation from the White House Saturday night, flanked by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

He opened the address stating the military had completed strikes on “three key nuclear facilities” in each of Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan.

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s No. 1 state sponsor of terror,” Trump said.

Trump added the strike “obliterated” the three facilities.

Damage to the facilities is not yet clear. During a press conference Sunday, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine told reporters the facilities were damaged.

“Final battle damage will take some time, but initial battle damage assessments indicate that all three sites sustained extremely severe damage and destruction,” Caine said.

Wyoming electeds’ reactions

Several of Wyoming’s statewide elected officials took to social media over the weekend to voice their support for Trump ordering a strike on three nuclear facilities in Iran.

Gov. Mark Gordon shared prayers for troops who are currently serving in the Middle East.

“(The President) and the United States defend the right of Israel to protect its people from those who have sworn to destroy their country. I support this courageous decision,” Gordon posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

U.S. Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said Trump’s decision was the right one.

“The greatest threat to the safety of the United States and the world is Iran with a nuclear weapon,” Barrasso posted to X.

U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., shared a similar sentiment.

“For years Iran has openly chanted ‘death to America’ and has acted as the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism,” Lummis posted to X. “Iran having nuclear weapons is a threat to our country and allies.”
