Wyoming elected officials celebrate as Trump win is certified
SHERIDAN (WNE) — Wyoming’s Congressional delegation expressed optimism and hope after the U.S. Congress certified the results of the 2024 presidential election Monday.
It was a return to normalcy four years after the insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021, when Congress certified the results of the 2020 presidential election. Certification in 2021 took 888 minutes, nearly 30 times longer than the 30 minutes it took Monday.
Vice President Kamala Harris presided as each state’s electoral vote certificates were read and recorded. The U.S. House and Senate’s joint session concluded as she read the results of the presidential election and named the president and vice president-elect.
President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance won the popular vote in November and the Electoral College in December, aided largely by sweeping the seven swing states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyoming, said in a news release Monday a second Trump presidency will help prioritize American citizens.
“With President Trump at the helm, I am optimistic about the future of our nation,” Hageman said. “His unwavering commitment to restoring American greatness has inspired millions, and I am confident that together, we can reverse the damage done by the Biden-Harris Administration and achieve remarkable progress…”
Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyoming, said she was honored to help certify the results.
“For four years the people of Wyoming have suffered skyrocketing prices at the grocery store and gas pump thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration’s runaway spending,” Lummis wrote in a statement posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, also shared a brief statement on X after the results were certified.
“It’s time to deliver for the American people,” he wrote.
Trump and Vance will be sworn in on Jan. 20.
