Wyoming Dems launch countdown clock on higher insurance premiums
CHEYENNE (WNE) —- With Wyoming facing the highest health insurance premium spikes in the nation — up to 693% — the Wyoming Democratic Party on Monday launched a new public resource, wyodems. org/ticktock, to track the time left until tens of thousands of Wyomingites lose the financial help that makes their health insurance affordable.
The countdown comes as Republicans in Congress, including U.S. Sens. John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis, and U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman, “hand out tax breaks to their billionaire buddies while completely failing to act on the health care crisis about to hit Wyoming families,” a news release from the party said. “At the same time, federal cuts in Trump’s Big Ugly Bill and property tax cuts enacted by the ‘Freedom’ Caucus are delivering a one-two punch that is pushing Wyoming health care toward disaster.”
Losing the ACA’s enhanced tax credits could mean the difference for many Wyoming families between staying insured and being forced to go without coverage at all — delaying care, struggling to afford medication and living one emergency away from medical bankruptcy, the release said.
The new “Tick Tock” site provides the following:
. A real-time countdown to the expiration of ACA financial help
. Wyoming-specific data on premium spikes
. Information on how these cuts will hit rural hospitals and clinics
. Tools for the public to take action and contact their elected officials Visit the countdown at wyodems.org/ticktock.
