Wyoming demonstrators protest Trump on Presidents Day

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Demonstrators protesting President Donald Trump and actions taken during his first month in office spent part of the Presidents Day holiday Monday outside the Wyoming State Capitol.
Despite the below-freezing weather, well over 100 attendees participated in the second of a planned series of local protests against the president and members of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus.
“I’m doing this for my grandchildren, because they might not get the opportunity to if we keep going down this road,” said one attendee, Linda Steiner, while hoisting a sign that read “Orange lies matter.”
Steiner is 66 years old, and said she has two granddaughters in Wyoming. She said she has lived in the Cowboy State her whole life, and has seen it shift more to the right in recent years.
She said she took particular issue with some of the bills put forth by the Wyoming Freedom Caucus that have been a top priority of the hardline group during the current state legislative session. (Lawmakers had the day off Monday due to the federal holiday.)
In 2024, Wyoming voters elected the first Freedom Caucus majority to a state legislative branch ever.
Steiner said she was concerned with some bills concerning reproductive rights, school funding and gun control.
Steiner said it is hard to find optimism for causes like these in a state like Wyoming, but added that she won’t be going down without a fight.
She was joined by Carol Serelson, who held a sign that read “Nanas against Nazis.” Serelson said she also has two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
“I don’t care whether it’s Trump or if it’s other people, but they’re squashing everybody else’s right to have a view, and that’s not OK,” Serelson said.
