Wyoming DCI confirms investigation into Laramie County coroner
CHEYENNE (WNE) — The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation has opened an investigation into Laramie County Coroner Rebecca Reid, who is running unopposed for reelection.
“I can confirm that we have a financial investigation involving the Coroner’s Office, and most specifically, Rebecca Reid,” said DCI Commander Ryan Cox in a phone call to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle on Tuesday.
Cox declined to comment on further details regarding the investigation.
Reid did not respond to a request for comment from the WTE by a 5 p.m. Thursday deadline.
Laramie County District Attorney Sylvia Hackl confirmed Thursday that there are no pending charges against Reid from her office. Cox said that because DCI is in the “beginning stages of this investigation,” there would not yet be any charges filed.
Reid is running unopposed in both the primary election set for Tuesday and in the general election on Nov. 3. Only Reid has filed for election to the office, the Laramie County Elections Office confirmed.
The Laramie County Commissioners Office “had no direct knowledge of accusations or investigations” into Reid’s office, Erin Andrews, communications and staffing specialist for the Laramie County Human Resources department, told the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in a phone call Wednesday afternoon.
Reid was first elected in 2018 and won reelection in 2022.
