Wrestling Moves Up, Both Individually and as a Team, in Latest Rankings
LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/5/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team crept up in the latest edition of the rankings. The team is now as high as No. 22 in the tournament team rankings and six Cowboys appear in the top 33 of their respective weight.
InterMat is the organization ranking Wyoming at No. 22 in the tournament rankings. They also have the Cowboys No. 24 in the dual team rankings.
Jore Volk (125) still headlines the individuals. He remained No. 2 in InterMat and vaulted up to No. 2 in Flo Wrestling’s rankings following the first week of action. Volk defeated Campbell’s No. 13 Anthony Molton via decision in the Cowboys’ first dual of the season.
Joey Novak (197) still sits as high as No. 10 in Flo Wrestling. He pinned Cambell’s Mike Slade in the Dual at the Daddy.
Gabe Willochell (149) was the only Poke to fall in the rankings, as he dropped to No. 17 in Open Mat’s poll. He was upset by Campbell’s Eugene Harney.
Jared Hill (157) vaulted up to No. 23 in InterMat. He’s 1-0 by way of toppling Campbell’s Seth Larson in sudden victory on Thursday.
Sam Mitchell (HWT) moved up to No. 24 in InterMat. He did not wrestle against Campbell.
Cole Brooks (141) broke into the rankings for the first time this season, checking in at No. 29 in InterMat. He upset Campbell’s No. 29 Shannon Hanna in sudden victory.
Wyoming opens its home slate this weekend. The Cowboys host Western Wyoming on Saturday in a dual at 2 p.m. inside the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Brown and Gold intrasquad scrimmage will immediately follow the dual against the Mustangs.
