Wrestling Concludes Day 1 at the Soldier Salute Tournament

CORALVILLE, Iowa (12/29/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team completed Day 1 of the Soldier Salute Tournament on Sunday inside Xtreme Arena. Three Cowboys advanced to Monday’s semifinals, while another three are still alive on the consolation side of the bracket.
No. 19 Jared Hill (157), No. 21 Gabe Willochell (149) and No. 32 Stockton O’Brien (133) represent the three Pokes who booked a ticket to the semifinals. Sloan Swan (157), Cooper Voorhees (165) and Ethan Ducca (174) are the trio still navigating through the consolation bracket.
Wyoming sent a total of 19 student-athletes to Coralville. Collectively, they went 27-31 and 15 picked up at least one win, while 11 logged at least a pair of victories.
All three Cowboy semifinalists went 2-0 on Sunday. Hill boasted a major decision and a decision and only allowed a combined four points to be scored on him. Willochell registered a pair of decisions, while O’Brien earned a pin and had a decision.
Swan is still kicking having recorded a win in the first tiebreaker period and a pin. Voorhees won via decision and had a technical fall. Ducca won via decision and manufactured a sudden victory.
Session 3 gets underway Monday at 10 a.m. The fourth and final session begins at 4 p.m.
