On April 30, around 8:41 p.m., the Wyoming Highway Patrol received notification of a motor vehicle accident at approximately milepost 57 on Wyoming 450, according to a release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The wreck resulted in the death of St. George, Utah, resident, 39-year-old Kandi L. Tanner, who was driving a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.
“A 2020 Dodge Ram was headed westbound on Wyoming 450 around milepost 57. The driver of the Dodge had slowed in the westbound lane of travel to turn into an adjacent drive on the right,” the release says. “The driver of an eastbound 2019 Volkswagen Jetta failed to negotiate a slight curve to the right and crossed the center line colliding head-on with the Dodge.”
In the Volkswagen with Tanner was a juvenile passenger who was transported to the Campbell County Memorial Hospital for injuries. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as 59-year-old Newcastle resident Tammy Elliott. In the vehicle with Elliott were 60-year-old Newcastle resident Kent Elliott, an 18-year-old Cheyenne resident, Steven Elliott, and two juvenile passengers. All occupants in the Dodge were wearing their seat belts and were transported to Campbell County Memorial Hospital for injuries.
Driver intention on the part of Tanner is being investigated as a contributing factor in the accident. This is the 23rd fatality recorded on Wyoming highways to date.
