Woman dies in Gillette from gunshot wounds; suspect in custody
GILLETTE (WNE) — A woman was killed after she was shot multiple times at a home in the 600 block of Carey Avenue Monday night, and the suspect is in custody.
Gillette police officers responded to a report of multiple gun shots at about 8 p.m., according to a city press release. They found the woman, Haleigh Martinez, who had multiple gunshot wounds.
The woman was taken to the Campbell County Health emergency room where she died from her injuries. She was pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m.
Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem said an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Rapid City, South Dakota.
A man in the home at the time was identified as the shooter and arrested. According to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office arrest log Tuesday morning, he was arrested for second-degree murder.
The police report didn’t specify how the shooter and victim were related. Police Deputy Chief Brent Wasson declined to comment.
The city says there is no further danger to the public, but it won’t release any further information until the investigation is complete.
