Who Would You Rather Follow?

Who would you rather follow—God, the source of truth, or Satan, the father of lies? The Bible makes the choice clear. Discover why God’s unchanging truth is the only firm foundation for life and eternity.
When faced with the question of who to follow, the answer might seem obvious. On one side, we have God, who is the embodiment of truth and faithfulness. On the other, we have Satan, the very source of lies and deception. Let’s explore what the Bible says about these two opposing natures and why the choice matters so much.
The Bible clearly states that God’s nature is truth. He cannot lie because it would contradict who He is. Consider these verses: Titus 1:2: “In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago.”
God’s promises are rooted in His unchanging nature. His Word is reliable because it is impossible for Him to lie. This gives us a firm foundation for our faith and hope.
Hebrews 6:18: “So that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to hold firmly to the hope set before us.”
This verse emphasizes that God’s truthfulness provides encouragement and strength for those who trust in Him. It assures us that His promises of salvation and eternal life are secure.
In stark contrast to God, Satan is identified as the father of lies. Jesus says this about him: John 8:44: “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Satan’s very nature is rooted in deceit. He uses lies to lead people astray, to destroy their faith, and to create doubt about God’s truth. His lies are the opposite of God’s promises; they bring despair instead of hope, chaos instead of peace, and death instead of life.
The difference between God and Satan is as stark as light and darkness. God’s truth brings life, hope, and peace, while Satan’s lies lead to death, despair, and destruction. The Bible presents us with a choice: to follow the God of truth or to fall victim to the deceit of the enemy.
You must pick one or the other. There is no middle ground. Would you rather follow the God who cannot lie, whose promises are eternal and unshakable? Or would you follow the father of lies, whose deception leads only to ruin? The answer might seem obvious, but the decision requires daily commitment to God’s truth.
Take refuge in the One who cannot lie. Trust in His promises, for they will never fail. As Jesus Himself said: John 14:6: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Let us choose to follow the way of truth and life—the way of Jesus Christ.
