White Extends School Record, Morris Posts Two School No. 2 Times to Wrap MW Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. (May 17, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program closed out the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Championships with three seven podium finishes, three program Top-2 times and 13 personal bests at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Saturday night.

As a team, the Cowboys finished in sixth with 75 points, their most since 2022, while the Cowgirls placed 11th with 25 points.

FIELD EVENTS

The final day of competition opened for Wyoming with the women’s triple jump. Junior Elayna Chafee made the finals after faulting on her first two attempts, showing off her clutch gene in her third jump. That attempt went on to be her best of the day and landed her in fifth at 40’ 7 3/4" (12.39 meters). Her fifth-place finish added four team points for the Cowgirls.

Three Cowboys let the discus fly, with two posting personal bests. Freshman Charles LaFore threw a distance of 169’ 8” (51.71 meters) for ninth in the finals and a lifetime best. In his first MW championships, LaFore made the finals in all three of his events, the hammer throw (7th), shot put (7th) and the discus (9th).

Junior Gage Griffith also threw a personal best in the discus with his 11th-place throw of 159’ 8” (48.68 meters). Freshman Quinn Lindsay finished in 16th with a toss of 143’ 9” (43.82 meters).

Freshman Koi Adderley competed in her last event of the championships in the high jump. She placed ninth after her clearance of 5’ 5” (1.65 meters) on her third attempt.

The last field event for Wyoming was the men’s triple jump. Senior Jefferson Danso took eighth for a team point with his best jump reaching 47’ 0 3/4" (14.34 meters). Sophomore Christian Edwards jumped to 12th with his leap of 45’ 3” (13.79 meters).

TRACK EVENTS

The track on championship Saturday kicked off with the 4x100-meter relay. For the men, the squad of Edwards, freshman Bridger Norton, freshman Logan Brown, and junior Darius Wiggins finished in sixth for three team points when they got the baton around in 41.50. The women’s 4x100-meter relay did not finish.

Junior Mac Zastrow took on the men’s 1,500-meter final and crossed the line 11th with a time of 3:52.76. He made the final after finishing 11th in yesterday’s prelim.

In his first MW 110-meter hurdle final, senior Jaheim Ferguson ran to seventh with a time of 14.54. In the 400-meter hurdles final, Ferguson fought to the finish for third with a time of 51.98. Across both hurdle finals, he totaled eight team points.

Freshman Bradley Ekstrom scored points in his first outdoor championship with his eighth-place finish in the 400 meters. His time of 48.92 earned the Cowboys one point.

In the women’s 100 meters, freshman Taliah Morris set a personal best and moved up to No. 2 in program history with her fourth-place time of 11.45. With her finish, she added five points for the Cowgirls. She followed up her performance with another fourth-place finish and school No. 2 time in the 200 meters. In the close competition, Morris crossed the line at 23.31, a personal best by over 0.30 seconds.

Over the championships, Morris, a Wyoming native, earned two fourths and one fifth-place finish for 14 team points.

Senior Trevor Stephen ran a personal best in his last 800-meter race for seventh. His time of 1:51.85 tallied two team points for the Cowboys.

Two Cowgirls ran in the 400-meter hurdles final on Saturday. Sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina finished in eighth for one team point when she crossed the line at 1:02.51. Senior Gabby Drube placed ninth with a time of 1:04.47 after she unfortunately fell coming into the last 100 meters.

In the women’s 5,000 meters, seniors Kylie Simshauser and Abigail Whitman ran side-by-side in their last collegiate race. Simshauser finished 14th with a time of 16:39.52 while Whitman placed 15th at 16:39.60. Coming in 23rd was graduate Marina Trave Ferrer with her finishing time of 16:56.32. Senior Nina Zraik took 30th with her time of 17:12.06 while senior Leah Christians crossed the line 36th at 17:29.73. Finally, junior Rozlyn Slichko ran her first 5,000 meters in 18:02.21 for 39th.

Junior Jacob White was utterly proud when the bronze medal was placed on his neck atop the 5,000-meter podium. In one of the most competitive races at the championships, White finished with a personal best of 13:37.74 to extend his school record. His time also broke the previous meet record along with seven other runners and added six team points.

Senior Mason Norman ran to 20th with a time of 14:30.65 while senior Gus McIntyre finished 23rd at 14:35.73.

The women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Mendoza-Molina, freshman Megan Witkiewicz, freshman Lily McDowell and freshman Eva Dellorco finished in 10th with a time of 3:50.48.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay squad of sophomore Cody Hape, Norton, Wiggins and Ekstrom ran in an exhilarating race. With the lead changing at every stage of the event, the Cowboys finished in fourth with a time of 3:15.04.

UP NEXT

Wyoming’s top competitors will wait for all conference championships results to come in to see who will qualify for the West First Round slated for May 28-31, in College Station, Texas. The top 48 student-athletes in each event will earn a bid for the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Championships.
