White Breaks Mile Record, Three Others Join Record Book in Day Two at Colorado Invite

BOULDER, Colo. (January 31, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program closed out day two of the Colorado Invitational with four Top-10 school marks and 26 personal bests all while finishing with eight Top-3 finishes, Saturday night.

FIELD EVENTS DAY ONE

The Cowboys swept the podium in the men’s shot put. Junior Cam Burkett took first with a throw of 59’ 11” (18.26 meters). Freshman Quinn Lindsay posted his first podium finish with a personal-best throw of 54’ 4 3/4" (16.58 meters) and in third came junior Gage Griffith with his throw reaching a distance of 54’ 1” (12.59 meters).

The women’s shot put saw two Cowgirls entering the competition and finishing 1-2. Sophomore Kais Kimuli took first with her throw of 42’ 4 3/4” (12.92 meters) while freshman Teagan Becker finished in second with a throw of 41’ 3 3/4” (12.59 meters).

Freshman Koi Adderley finished second in the women’s long jump with a distance of 18’ 1 1/2” (5.52 meters). Freshman Melody ZumBrunnen, while finishing sixth, still had a personal-best jump of 16’ 7” (5.05 meters).

RUNNING EVENTS

Junior sprinter Carter McComb won the 60-meter final with a personal-best time of 6.79, after altitude conversion. He also moved up to No. 9 in 60-meter program history.  

In the women’s 60-meter, junior Elayna Chafee made the final with her prelim time of 7.82. Two Cowgirls saw personal bests in the prelims with senior Joan Easter running a time of 7.84 and freshman Madeline Thorne finishing with a time of 7.97. In the final, Chafee ran to sixth with her own personal-best time of 7.81.

Senior Jaheim Ferguson posted a personal best in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with his time of 8.23 to add a third-place finish.

The Cowgirls had two in the 60-meter hurdles final, both with personal bests. Freshman Carly Norman took third with a time of 8.84 and sophomore Ava Morgan finished with a time of 9.10 for seventh.

The 200-meters saw plenty of Pokes post personal-best times. Those finishers for the men were Ferguson with a time of 22.09, sophomore Cody Hape with 22.29, freshman Bridger Norton at 22.29 and freshman Logan Brown finishing with a time of 22.46, and for the women freshman Megan Witkiewicz with a time of 25.25, freshman Lily McDowell running 25.61, Thorne finishing at 26.22 and sophomore Isabelle Harvey crossing the line at 26.22.

In the men’s 400-meter, freshman Bradley Ekstrom jumped to No. 2 in school history, with his personal-best time of 47.57, after altitude adjustments.

All four Cowgirls posted personal-best in the 400-meter with freshman Eva Dellorco at 56.49, sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina finishing at 56.60, senior Gabby Drube with a time of 57.13 and Harvey crossing the line at 58.41.

Entering the long-distance slate of the day, junior Jacob White finished with a school-record time in the mile. Finishing first with a personal-best time of 4:00.46, after altitude adjustments, White now holds four school records across track and cross country.

Other notable finishes in the men’s mile were senior Ryker Holtzen grabbing third and the No. 4 program time with a time of 4:02.33 and junior Mac Zastrow finishing fourth at 4:03.69.

In the women’s 3,000-meter, senior Kylie Simshauser took second with her time of 9:32.32, after altitude adjustments. Two personal bests in the 3,000-meter race came from junior Rozlyn Slichko, who had a time of 9:57.73 and senior Nina Zraik, who crossed the line at 10:08.37.

On the men’s side, both Cowboys posted personal-best with times of 8:13.75 from sophomore Jake Bach and 8:37.21 from freshman Nolan Hoffman.

The meet closed with several 4x400-meter relay teams representing Wyoming. The top team on the women’s side of McDowell, senior Paige Sefried, Thorne and Harvey took third with a time of 3:52.1 while the men’s top-finishing team of Zastrow, senior Trevor Stephen, senior Asefa Wetzel and junior Tristan Knueppel crossing at 3:29.01.

UP NEXT

Wyoming will have a week off before splitting and returning to Albuquerque, N.M. for the Don Kirby Invitational and hitting the West Coast for the first time this season for the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 14 and 15.
