Which One is Best?

A fiddle, a banjo, and a guitar argue over which one the Lord likes best—until a forgotten broom speaks up with a truth we all need to hear. A parable-style blog post about surrender, purpose, and being used by the Master.
It happened one quiet evening in a little country music shop. The lights were off. The door was locked. But over in the corner, three instruments were having a conversation.
The fiddle spoke first. “I think the Lord must love my sound the most. I can cry with the brokenhearted and sing with the joyful. My tone carries emotion. Doesn’t Scripture say to weep with those who weep?” (Romans 12:15)
The banjo gave a cheerful chuckle. “Well, sure, but I bring the joy. I’m the sound of celebration and freedom. I think the Lord delights in joy. The Bible says, Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth!” (Psalm 100:1)
The guitar chimed in with a steady voice. “You’re both important. But I’m the one who holds the rhythm and brings harmony. I provide the foundation for the song. Doesn’t the Word say, Let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner?” (1 Corinthians 14:40)
The three sat in silence for a moment, each thinking they had made the strongest case. That’s when a quiet voice came from the corner. An old broom, leaned up and mostly forgotten, spoke softly. “You’re all beautiful. All made for a purpose. But y’all are missing something.”
The instruments turned toward it.
“You can’t do anything on your own,” the broom said. “You were built to be played. The one the Lord delights in is the one who’s willing to be picked up and used.”
Silence fell across the room.
The broom went on, “Apart from Me you can do nothing. That’s what Jesus said.” (John 15:5) And suddenly, each instrument remembered why they were made.
Not one note comes out unless the Master touches the strings. Not one life rings out for His glory unless we surrender ourselves to His hands.
1 Corinthians 12:18 says, But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. God made each of us with a specific design and purpose. But our sound only matters if it comes from Him.
So maybe it’s not about which sound He likes best. Maybe it’s about which one is ready to be played—anytime, anywhere, for His glory.
Let others argue. Let the world compare. You just stay tuned… and stay surrendered.
