When Christ Moves In

When Christ moves into your life, He doesn’t just want one room—He wants the whole house. Discover what it means to fully surrender and let Him take over, one room at a time.

Moving into a new house takes time to adjust. Everything is different. Where you used to keep things doesn’t work anymore. You reach for a light switch, and it’s not where it used to be. Even something as simple as making coffee feels off until you figure out where everything belongs.

That’s a lot like what happens when Christ moves into a life. He doesn’t just want a key to stop by when it’s convenient. He doesn’t want just one room. He wants the whole house. And when He moves in, things get moved around. Some things get tossed out. Other things get cleaned up. What once felt normal might not belong anymore. He changes the layout.

He’s not looking to redecorate. He comes to take over. That’s what it means for Him to be Lord. And the truth is, He has every right to do just that. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). If we belong to Him, then He’s not just a guest—we’re His dwelling place.

We don’t get to keep Him in a corner while holding on to the things we’re comfortable with. He lovingly steps into every room, even the ones we’d rather keep locked. And He decides what stays and what needs to go. Some of what He removes, we may not understand at first. But over time, we’ll see it was for our good.

It may feel unfamiliar in the beginning. Things won’t be like they used to be—and that’s a good thing. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). We’re not meant to live the same way once Christ moves in.

And how does that change really take root? It happens when we let Him fill the place with His truth. “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another...” (Colossians 3:16). It’s not just about clearing things out—it’s about filling our lives with Him.

As He takes over more and more of the space, what once felt strange begins to feel like home. Not because we rearranged our lives, but because we allowed Him to.
