What Should Your Plastics Warehouse First Aid Kit Include?

Even the most vigilant warehouse workers can sustain injuries when operating machinery. This is especially true with plastic manufacturing, where workers typically interact with sharp edges and chemicals that could cause harm.

Having a first aid kit handy provides your team with the resources they need to patch up injuries. Here’s what you should include in your plastics warehouse first aid kit.

Adhesive Bandages and Sterile Gauze Pads

Minor cuts and abrasions are common machine-related workplace injuries. Bandages work well for covering small lacerations to avoid infection. For larger wounds, gauze pads are more suitable to prevent infection.

Antiseptic Wipes and Creams

Antiseptic wipes and creams can prevent infection. They are also helpful to clean a wound when soap and clean water are not readily available.

Eye Wash Solution

If chemicals splash onto any part of your body, you need to rinse them off immediately. This is especially true if they get in your eyes. When chemicals come into contact with the eyes, they could have long-lasting, negative effects. Add an eye wash solution to your warehouse’s kit in case of emergency.

Disposable Gloves

Avoid contamination when treating infections by storing disposable gloves in your first aid kit. They protect both the injured worker and the person administering first aid. Offer both nitrile and latex-free options to prevent allergic reactions to PPE.

Burn Care Supplies

When operating hot machinery, there’s the risk of getting burned. Burn gels and dressings provide immediate relief before the burn causes permanent damage to the skin. Include these supplies in your plastics warehouse first aid kit to remedy burn-related injuries.

Instant Cold Packs

Sprains, strains, and bruises could occur at any point in the warehouse. To reduce pain and swelling after sustaining an injury of this sort, stock up on cold packs. They are easy to store and effective for slowing swelling.

First Aid Manual

A comprehensive first aid manual guides your staff to treat injuries without trouble. The manual should list all the items in the first aid kit and how to administer treatments to yourself and others. Train your employees to follow the basic steps of first aid. This can save any member of your staff from severe or long-term injury!

Provide your staff with the treatments and resources necessary to maintain a safe workplace. Designate a space for the first aid kit on the manufacturing floor for easy access. With these essentials, your warehouse team can take care of themselves and each other after incidents and accidents.
