What If Jesus Preached Your Funeral?
A straight and honest look at eternity. What would Jesus say if He preached your funeral? His words cut through the soft phrases we repeat and point to the truth that every soul must face. A call for the living to know Him now.
Most funerals sound the same. People say the usual things.
“He was a good man.”
“She’s in a better place.”
“They’re smiling down on us.”
Then come the pictures and soft music. It all sounds comforting, but not all of it is true.
But what if Jesus showed up and preached your funeral? Not sitting in the back. Not whispering. What if He stood there and spoke? Would He say what everyone else says, or would He tell the truth?
Jesus never pretends. He never says things just to make people feel better. He speaks truth every time.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6
If that is true, and it is, then the idea that everyone goes to heaven falls apart. Not everyone is in a better place. Not everyone gets a mansion. No one gets wings. People say those things to soften the moment, but Jesus never softens truth.
If Jesus preached your funeral, He would focus on one thing. Did you ever truly know Him?
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you.’”
Matthew 7:21, 23
That is not harsh. That is honest. And His honesty makes His hope even stronger.
Jesus doesn’t show up at funerals to condemn. He comes to offer life.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
John 5:24
If Jesus preached your funeral, He would look at the living. He would see the hurting, the confused, the searching. And He would say, “You still have time. Don’t waste it.”
Would His words match your life? Would He say, “Well done, good and faithful servant”?
Matthew 25:23
Or would He grieve over a life that looked faithful on the outside but never truly followed Him?
Your family might believe you are in heaven. Your friends might share good memories. The slideshow might glow with your best moments. But Jesus knows the full story. And when He speaks, there is no guessing.
You cannot write your own eulogy, but you are writing the story Jesus will tell. You are writing it with the life you live right now.
Live so His words will be joyful. Live so no one has to lie at your funeral. Before that day comes, you still have a choice. You can settle for being remembered, or you can live to be redeemed.
Jesus is not waiting for your funeral. He is calling now.
