What Are You Waiting For?
Jesus didn’t leave us guessing about what He expects from His followers. He gave us a clear charge: to go and make disciples. This isn’t optional. It’s our duty and privilege as His people to share the truth of the Gospel with a world in desperate need of salvation.
"And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'" (Matthew 28:18-20)
This is our mission: to go, teach, and baptize. Jesus, the One who holds all authority, has given us this command. And yet, so often, we hesitate. Why?
The urgency couldn’t be clearer. Jesus said:
"Then He said to His disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.'" (Matthew 9:37)
"And He was saying to them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.'" (Luke 10:2)
"Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields, that they are white for harvest." (John 4:35)
The harvest isn’t tomorrow. It’s today. The fields are ready, but where are the laborers? The world is full of people longing for hope, purpose, and salvation, but far too few are stepping up to share the Good News.
God is asking, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” (Isaiah 6:8) Will you answer as Isaiah did, saying, “Here am I. Send me!”?
Sharing the Gospel might seem daunting, but remember, it’s not about your abilities. It’s about your availability. Paul reminds us of the role we play:
"I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building." (1 Corinthians 3:6-9)
Your job is to plant the seeds, to water them with love, and to trust God to bring the growth. And yes, it takes effort. It takes persistence. Do you want to witness? Don’t wait for a chance—make a chance. Step out in faith, and God will provide the opportunities.
"Let us not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary." (Galatians 6:9)
The harvest brings joy, even when sowing feels hard. As the psalmist says:
"Those who sow in tears shall harvest with joyful shouting. One who goes here and there weeping, carrying his bag of seed, shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him." (Psalm 126:5-6)
And the ultimate harvest is coming. Revelation reminds us:
"And another angel came out of the temple, calling out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, 'Put in Your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is ripe.'" (Revelation 14:15)
So, what are you waiting for? Souls are perishing. The fields are ready. Jesus has given the command. He’s promised His presence. You have the power of the Holy Spirit! The harvest is plentiful. All that’s missing are the laborers.
Will you step into the field?
