The lack of positive COVID-19 cases in Weston County to date is not due to a lack of testing, according to Public Health Nurse Lori Bickford, who noted that as we move into the summer months the public needs to remain aware and vigilant.
According to the Wyoming Department of Health, Weston County has had a total of 100 tests performed with none of them resulting in a positive. To date, there are 644 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 22 Wyoming counties, 199 probable cases and 13 deaths associated with the disease.
“I believe that a lot of the lack of positives in the county is due to the people here following the guidelines to the best of their ability,” Bickford said, adding that these guidelines will become even more important as businesses continue to open up and tourists move into the area.
“Going into summer, with more gatherings and tourists coming in, there is an increase in the risk of the county seeing its first positive test result,” Bickford said. “We (Weston County Public Health) are ready to deal with that when it comes; we have trained for it.”
To continue protecting yourself and the community, Bickford said, it is pertinent to remember social distancing standards, continue hand washing, and to wear a mask when social distancing standards are compromised.
“We need people to do the best we can so we can have a summer and businesses can continue to enjoy serving customers under relaxed restrictions,” Bickford said.
