We are happy to see you 2021

This year has delivered more than its share of punches, from record setting fire seasons to a global pandemic, nobody was safe from 2020’s wrath. With the end in sight, as we count down the last few hours of this historic year, let’s do our best to put 2020 in the rearview mirror.
The end of a year, no matter what year it is, provides an opportunity to start new. New Year’s resolutions are a common trend, resetting a person’s focus and goals.
As we step into the unchartered territories of what 2021 has to offer, let’s come together as a community and work together to move past the unforgiving nature of 2020.
Throughout this year, we have all seen ugliness in others that we didn’t know existed. Neighbors have become enemies and the division between people is at an all time high.
Weston County, we are better than this. We can’t let 2021 be another year of cancel culture and disrespect.
Whether you agree or disagree with the approach of the government during the pandemic or the response to the riots that were seen in nearly every major city across the country, we should all be able to agree that we want what is best for Weston County and the future of northeast Wyoming.
Now that we know we all have one common goal, be the best Weston County we can be. We must ask, is the constant fighting, name calling, mask shaming and pure lack of transparency and respect the way to achieve said goal?
The answer is no!
It is time that we remember to accept that other individuals have different beliefs, that we do not understand everyone’s situation or story and that everyone is doing their best to navigate these uncharted waters.
Before we get angry at healthcare workers and school officials, let’s remember that they are only doing their jobs to the best of their ability. Before we get upset because someone is wearing a mask or not, let’s remember that we have no clue what they might be going through.
As we welcome 2021 with open arms. Let’s start over. Let’s apologize to our neighbors and embrace the Weston County community we
all love.
While a new year brings a chance to start over, we all know it doesn’t make last year’s problems go away. But, what we do know is with a little compassion, respect and understanding this community can conquer anything.
Along with the hurdles 2020 still has us jumping, we all know that 2021 will bring its own set of trials and tribulations. Whether we are talking revenue shortfalls or the need to diversify Wyoming and Weston County’s economy, it is safe to assume that the race is only
beginning.
As you read through this week’s edition of the News Letter Journal, of the highs and lows we felt together, think about what we can do to move forward and beyond. Let’s remember the good and put the bad behind us.
And, don’t forget to check out next week’s Person of the Year edition to find out who you, the community, think made a positive impact on the community in 2020. The News Letter Journal is dedicated to recognizing these individuals and the difference they make everyday.
