On June 3, the Weston County Art Association unanimously awarded a scholarship to Jamison Nistler, of Upton. Nistler sent in his application along with a USB drive, which had videos of him playing guitar and singing. He plans to further his post-high school education and pursue a career in music performance. He is looking at Casper College to study music theory in the fall.
Nistler has already qualified and attended several prestigious musical events, including Wyoming All-State Choir, High Plains Choir, and High Plains Guitar Ensemble.
WCAA awarded Nistler the $500 scholarship by a unanimous vote of the board. It was an easy decision to award Nistler, according to Tom Voss, president of WCAA. His letter to the association was intelligent, humorous, and displayed a commitment to be the best he could be in his pursuit as a performer.
“Because this reality is mine,” Nistler wrote, comparing his current pursuit with any possible other Nistlers in the popular infinite worlds theory, “and to do anything less than my best with it would be an affront to every other universe. Because I am to be Jamison Nistler, the pinnacle of my existence.”
With the funny analogy presented in his letter, and going above and beyond by submitting several videos of his musical talents, Voss said the WCAA was proud to award this bright young man the only scholarship presented this year.
