Volunteers needed
After failing to secure a superintendent to run the upcoming 2020 Weston County Fair Junior Rodeo, the Weston County Junior Rodeo Committee has announced that they will absorb those duties for the upcoming fair but are unsure how long they can continue doing so.
In a Facebook post dated Dec. 31, the committee announced that the “rodeo is only possible if individuals are willing to a take a turn and volunteer their time to put on the rodeo for the youth in our county.”
Despite a lack of volunteers, Chairman John Riesland said that the committee plans to take over the responsibilities given to the superintendent but that he was unsure of how long an arrangement like that
could work.
The fact that these committee members even have to consider discontinuing a fair tradition is heartbreaking to say the least. It also makes an ongoing problem even more apparent.
Everywhere you turn, people are constantly complaining about the lack of things to do within this community and the desire for others to create things to entertain children. The problem with this situation is, these people are never willing to step up and take over some of the responsibility to keep what we do have going.
We challenge you all to think about this the next time you complain about the lack of things to do in Newcastle and Weston County. What have you done to help or make the situation more positive? If the answer is nothing, then we suggest you contact the Weston County Junior Rodeo committee and offer some of your time, especially if you want to see this event continue for the youth in this community.
