STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (11/16/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team had its premier wrestler, Jore Volk, competing in a showcase event Saturday night at Rec Hall. And under the bright lights of the NWCA All-Star Classic, with ‘WYO’ proudly displayed on the front of his singlet, No. 2 Volk shined.

Volk (125) defeated South Dakota State’s No. 5 Tanner Jordan via decision, 8-2. It moves Volk to 3-0 on the season with two top-15 victories.

Volk earned a first-period takedown of Jordan and tacked on another one in the third period. Volk also garnered a riding-time point.

Volk and Jordan had met four times prior to Saturday with Volk owning a 3-1 advantage. Not much offense was present last season, as the only takedown in the two’s three matchups occurred in the seventh-place match at the NCAA Championships.

Volk has now claimed three in a row over Jordan. The two will likely meet again this season, as the Cowboys and Jackrabbits are slated to dual Feb. 1 in Brookings, South Dakota.

Wyoming, as a team, is back in action Friday. The Pokes travel to No. 3 Oklahoma State for a 6 p.m. dual before going to Oklahoma on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. match.
