LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/15/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team will have representation at the National Wrestling Coaching Association All-Star Classic on Saturday in State College, Pennsylvania. No. 2 Jore Volk (125) squares off with South Dakota State’s No. 5 Tanner Jordan inside Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University.

Volk and Jordan are familiar foes, as they both compete in the Big 12. They’ve met four times previously – twice in the postseason and twice in duals – and Volk possesses a 3-1 edge in those matchups.

“It's always tough to wrestle someone multiple times, no matter who it is, so Saturday presents a great opportunity for Jore to continue to test himself and see where he's at,” assistant coach Devin Schroder said. “Our expectation is stay consistent with him no matter the circumstances, meaning we expect him to try to score a bunch of points and open up his offense. When Jore is having fun and letting it fly, good things tend to happen.”

Volk is 2-0 this season, and that offense was on display in his most recent bout. He defeated Western Wyoming’s Sefton Douglass – ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA – via pin, marking Volk’s first pin since his freshman season.

Jordan is 3-0, accumulating his perfect record at the Bison Open. He boasted two technical falls and one major decision.

The NWCA All-Star Classic is comprised of 16 matches. Five women’s matches, a men’s Division II versus Division III match and ten Division I men’s matches make up the schedule.

The event starts at 5 p.m. with the five women’s bouts followed by the cross-divisional match and concluding with the Division I men’s matches. Volk and Jordan will be the ninth match of the day.

Volk and the rest of his Wyoming teammates are back in action next week. The Pokes travel to No. 3 Oklahoma State on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. and battle at No. 21 Oklahoma on Nov. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
