Veterans’ assistance available

A representative from the Wyoming Veterans Commission is available every Thursday in August to aid veterans and their families in accessing benefits and filing claims. 
“We are here to be advocates for veterans, to help them file claims with the VA and to get them access to state and federal benefits for their service,” said Sandy McFarland, a state veterans service officer. 
McFarland said that the goal is to reach as many veterans in local communities as possible to discuss state and federal veterans’ benefits, Department of Veterans Affairs claims, VA health care, as well as help individuals apply for benefits, file their claims or request health care. 
The outreach is state funded through the Wyoming Veterans Commission. The group is conducting community outreach services throughout Wyoming. 
McFarland will be at the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services office, 22922 U.S. Hwy. 85, in Newcastle from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Thursday next month.
She will also be available in Moorcroft on Friday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Moorcroft Senior Center, 112 S. Little Horn Ave., in Upton on Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Upton Senior Center, 703 Ash St., and in Sundance on Friday, Aug. 20, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Sundance Senior Center, 220 N. Second St.  
“Most other weekdays McFarland is available by appointment at her office (551 Running West Dr., Ste. 100, in Gillette). Please contact McFarland at 307-696-5048 to schedule an appointment at her office or any of the above locations,” a press release from Wyoming Military Department states.
