Vehicle pursuit leads to arrest in downtown Laramie

LARAMIE (WNE) — In the early morning hours on Monday, March 30, Albany County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Laramie Police Department during a vehicle pursuit that began within Laramie city limits and ended near the intersection of 6th and Hancock streets.

Deputies became involved after overhearing radio traffic from a Laramie Police officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a red Lincoln for speeding in the 400 block of E. Grand Ave. The vehicle, which did not display registration, failed to yield and continued at a high rate of speed into the downtown area, according to a news release.

The driver fled northbound on 3rd Street at high speeds, committing multiple traffic violations before crashing into a parked vehicle near 6th and Hancock streets, disabling the car. The driver then fled on foot into a nearby residential backyard but was quickly apprehended by deputies.

The suspect, identified as Manuel Rodriquez, 46, is a Colorado resident and was taken into custody and evaluated for injuries prior to being booked into the Albany County Detention Center. 

No injuries to deputies or members of the public were reported. 

Rodriquez faces multiple charges, including felony possession of controlled substances (marijuana, methamphetamine, black tar heroin and powder heroin), felony possession with intent to deliver, eluding law enforcement, interference with a peace officer, driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding, red light violation, stop sign violation, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and improper display of registration.
