Holcomb records double-double with 11 kills and 11 blocks

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 9, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls’ five-match winning streak came to an end Thursday night inside the UniWyo Sports Complex, as the Cowgirls stumbled in four sets to Utah State. Set scores went 18-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15.

The Cowgirls (8-8, 4-1 MW) got off to a fast start Thursday, never trailing in the first set to take an early lead in the contest. However, from there, it was Utah State’s (8-7, 5-0 MW) turn to heat things up the rest of the match, as the Aggies hit no worse than .324 in any of the final three sets as they gained control of the match after the first. USU trailed just once in the second set and only twice in each of the third and fourth sets.

Wyoming hit .146 in the loss while Utah State hit .248. The Cowgirls did double-up the Aggies in team blocks, 16-8 but had 16 fewer digs and recorded just 38 kills to Utah State’s 64. USU also held a 5-4 edge in service aces.

Sarah Holcomb and Paige Lauterwasser led the Cowgirl offense in the loss. The duo recorded 11 kills each and were the only two in double figures for the Brown & Gold. Holcomb, who hit .333, was also a menace defensively, recording her sixth-career double-double, thanks to recording 11 blocks in the contest (five solo, six assisted). Lauterwasser, meanwhile, tied for the team lead with 15 digs as she notched her seventh double-double of the season.

Skylar Erickson tied with Lauterwasser with 15 digs. She also had a pair of assists in the loss. Maddy Stucky led UW with 17 assists and two aces. Sara Quigley had 15 assists and added another double-double to her resume as she had 10 digs on the night.

The Cowgirls now look to begin another five-match winning streak, beginning Saturday at home with another tough opponent. Wyoming hosts Boise State at noon in the UniWyo to close the week at home.
