JACKSON (WNE) — Two Jackson Hole nurses have started a nonprofit to support county residents’ sexual health.

Co-founders Janet Lawrence Garland and Vicki Rosenberg incorporated the Teton County Foundation for Public Health last April and the IRS granted the foundation tax-exempt status in May of 2024.

The foundation will raise and distribute funds to support health services offered at the Teton County Health Department. This year, the foundation will focus primarily on sexual and reproductive services, Rosenberg said.

The public health department provides services including family planning consultation, tests for sexually transmitted infections and diseases, condoms, oral contraceptives and Nexplanon insertions for birth control. It also offers annual wellness exams.

“Most of the people we serve are those who are uninsured, underinsured or lower-income people,” Rosenberg said. “We have sliding scales for everything we do.”

The foundation has been in the works since 2016, Rosenberg said, and the timing of her announcement is not related to recent cuts from President Donald Trump to HIV research and grants.

In October, the Jackson Hole Community Foundation awarded the Teton County Foundation for Public Health a $20,000 grant, which will support start-up efforts. The foundation plans to continue to pursue funding through Old Bill’s Fun Run and will also fundraise through other avenues, a news release announcing the launch said.
