Every Friday, starting at 9 a.m., the Weston County Senior Center has caramel rolls for sale in the cafeteria. These tempting, sticky treats are $2 apiece, and coffee is also always available. Many people come to partake, spending time in fellowship with each other as well.
“People come in and visit and just hang out for the morning. We just love it,” said Carolyn Shields, the director of the center.
On occasion, the center also sells rolls at a couple of other places. Every first Wednesday of the month, you can purchase the rolls at Frontier Supply. Every third Wednesday, they are available at Skull Creek Boutique.
If you are worried that the rolls will not be available during the cold winter months in Newcastle. Shields wants to dispel that concern. If the roads are passable, the rolls will be available every Friday, year-round, at the senior center and on the designated Wednesdays at Frontier and Skull Creek.
Other rolls are also available. For example, cinnamon rolls, on Fridays, can be pre-ordered for the Wednesday sales.
So for a sweet taste sensation that can’t be topped, plan on stopping by these places and help support a treasured weekly mainstay of the community. Your taste buds will thank you.
