Thumbs up to businesses, Godfrey, thumbs down to vandals

It’s time for another episode of Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down with the Thumbs Up going to the businesses, organizations and volunteers who were honored by the Worland-Ten Sleep Chamber Board of Directors at the chamber banquet Friday.

The board selects a small, medium and large business of the year to honor each year, as well as a longevity business, ag business or organization, nonprofit, Ten Sleep business and a volunteer or volunteers.

See our stories on A11 and A12 for the full list of honorees.

The award winners are just a small sampling of the businesses who invest in our communities and we would like to join the chamber in saying thank you for having your business here in Washakie County.

Thumbs Down to the vandals who damaged the “Bicycle In Tunnel” sign at the Cody tunnel by knocking it down and then stole the “When Flashing” sign.

These signs are for the protection of the bicyclists as well as the motorists. Vandalizing and/or stealing safety signs is not smart, it is not “lit” or cool as my generation would say. It is dumb and scary.

I had a friend who was killed while riding on the highway outside of Lovell years ago. She was struck by a motorist. Her death was devastating to her family and the driver.

Actions such as stealing or damaging safety signs are done by those thinking only of themselves and never thinking about the consequences.

My hope is there is no tragedies while the Wyoming Department of Transportation works to get these signs replaced.

And a Thumbs Up to Chief Washakie FFA Advisor and Worland High School teacher Grace Godfrey for being honored by her peers as the Wyoming Champion Ag Teacher by the Wyoming State FFA Association.

A few years ago I wrote about how well-liked and admired Godfrey was by her students, which can be seen at any FFA banquet or event.

With this honor, Godfrey shows that her strong work ethic and love of her students, ag classes and FFA has also earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow ag teachers.
