Thank you Weston County
To the Editor:
We are coming to the end of what is hopefully the last of the statewide COVID-19 mandates. We see a relaxing of tension not only in our community and state, but across the nation. I would like to thank the good people of Newcastle, Weston County and Wyoming for their response to the worldwide pandemic.
When the word came down that all school events in progress were cancelled immediately it gave pause and contemplation of the gravity of the situation. I asked myself often if it was really this serious or if our government had overreacted. To this day I am not confident of information about the virus being untainted by political bias or that is even factual.
Our community reacted with exactly the correct response. Being vigilant and cautious without jeopardizing our businesses any more than needed. When restaurants closed inside dining, we all stepped up and supported them ordering meals to pick up. Maybe even more than we might normally. Other businesses allowed instore commerce with appropriate cautions. The community stepped up and patronized local stores, knowing there would be a financial burden on them if we did not.
The mandates from the state were merely a guideline to safe practice. I commend our County Commissioners and Sheriff for recognizing them for what they were. I appreciate that people of the community followed good practice and common sense protecting each other as much as possible and practical from the virus.
Our reaction to the pandemic must have been appropriate, as our cases have always been low. This epidemic has impacted everyone in one way or another. Some minimally and others tragically. We can never forget where this worldwide virus came from and how it was allowed to spread across
the world.
Thank you to the Weston County Commissioners who kept a level head and guided us through. Thank you to our sheriff for protecting our constitutional rights. Thank you to Kristen and Marty for keeping us informed when information and announcements were scarce. Thank you to our businesses for carrying on and providing uninterrupted services. And most of all thank you to everyone who has kept our community as close to normal as possible.
