LARAMIE, Wyo. (10/31/24) – The University of Wyoming women’s swimming and diving team travels to Northern Colorado on Friday, then both the men and women host Air Force on Saturday at Laramie High School.
These two meets will be the first time this season that the Cowgirls will compete in back-to-back days, which should be a new challenge for them to face as the they look to remain undefeated in duals. The Cowgirls last faced the Bears in 2023, where they came out on top 194-104.
“Northern Colorado gets better and better every year, and they swim fast at their home pool,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “That’s going to be a challenge for us, but on the other side, even against Air Force in the Mountain West they’ve really built a great program in the last year or two. I think they’re going to be close meets and it’s really going to showcase what our talent is going to be like for the rest of the season.”
Having already competed against Air Force this season at the Front Range Invite, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will be looking to put on a good dual performance against their conference opponent. Last season, Wyoming logged two dominating team wins against the Falcons with the Cowboys winning 191-109 and the Cowgirls winning 169-131.
“This is kind of the pinnacle of our dual meet racing for the season. Our guys always get up and want to race tough against Air Force, they’ve been a great rivalry of ours forever,” Denniston said. “With that meet we have the highest competition in the country, and we have a traveling trophy which is an oxygen tank. We currently have it, but it’s up for grabs and I know our guys are going to want to keep it.”
Following Northern Colorado and Air Force this weekend, the Cowgirls will head to Fort Collins for the Border War against Colorado State on Friday, November 8.
