State offers residents opportunity to buy a bison

THERMOPOLIS (WNE) — Bids to buy any of the 18 animals from the state bison herd will be accepted at the Hot Springs State Park Headquarters Office in Thermopolis until 4 p.m. on December 8.

The available bison include five 2025 heifer calves, ten 2024 bull calves, two 2024 yearling heifers and one 2006 cow.

All the animals have received proper vaccinations. The minimum bids are as follows: $1,000 for 2025 heifer calves; $1,100 for 2025 bull calves; $1,200 for the yearling heifers, and $1,000 for the 2006 cow. 

Bidders can submit offers for any or all of these bison. 

Buyers are eligible to collect their purchased animals starting December 9, and it’s the buyer’s responsibility to arrange for transportation, as the seller does not provide delivery services.

Settlements must be made with the superintendent of Hot Springs State Park within seven days of receiving a successful bid notification.
