The Newcastle Dogie track and field team closed out its 2025-26 season with several standout performances at the WHSAA State Track and Field Championships, including multiple podium finishes and a school-record relay time.

Head coach Matt Conzelman said the Dogies showed determination throughout the meet despite difficult conditions on the opening day of competition.

“The Dogies showed incredible resilience, battling tough weather on the first day and competing with heart throughout the Wyoming State Championships,” Conzelman said.

A major highlight came before the state meet at regionals, when Newcastle’s boys 4x100-meter relay team broke a school record that had stood since 1990. Jaden McGuire, Dane Crabtree, Landen Hill and Collin McConkey posted a time of 44.56 seconds to surpass the previous mark of 44.83 set by B. Weaver, C. Davidson, C. Gray and B. Morris.

At state, Adalyn Olson led the Lady Dogies with four medals. Olson finished second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3.75 inches and earned runner-up honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a finals time of 15.78 seconds. She also took third in the 200-meter dash in 25.80 seconds and finished sixth in the 100-meter dash at 12.81 seconds.

The girls’ 4x100-meter relay team earned a spot on the podium with an eighth-place finish in 53.82 seconds. The relay team included Anika Oleson, Brystal Sweet, Josie Smith and Hana Alexander.

Sydney Pederson qualified for the finals in the shot put and finished ninth with a throw of 34-8. She also placed 13th in the discus at 95-0.

On the boys side, Landen Hill earned a fifth-place medal in the high jump after clearing 6-1.

Newcastle’s boys 4x100-meter relay team narrowly missed the podium with a ninth-place finish in 44.99 seconds. The sprint medley relay team also placed ninth with a time of 3:57.46. Team members were McGuire, McConkey, Cole Erb and Archer Ohnstad.

Several other Dogies qualified for state competition and contributed strong performances across sprinting, jumping and hurdle events. The girls team placed 9th among 3A teams, while the boys team placed 15th.

Conzelman also announced that the NHS Track and Field Banquet has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the NHS Commons Area.
