Summer has officially arrived and children are out of school and ready for new adventures, and Michelle Sweet, maternal child health coordinator at Weston County Public Health, has announced that this year’s Safety Bash is just around the corner.

The Spring Into Summer Safety Bash will be held in the Newcastle High School parking lot on Saturday, June 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and Sweet is hoping that parents and children will attend the event to learn about safety and how to be more aware of potentially dangerous situations.

Sweet said 26 local, state and federal agencies will be at the event to greet participants, provide valuable information about personal safety, and establish relationships with the youth of the community.

Double AAces, 21 Wellness, Smokey Bear, Raising Readers, Weston County Search and Rescue, and Super Suds with Weston County Health Services Clinic are just a few of the agencies participating.

A car seat safety check station will be provided by Wyoming Highway Patrol, which has been involved in the safety bash event since 2004.

“It is a privilege to be involved in this event, to be able to provide education regarding the importance of properly using occupant restraints to ensure that kids avoid the more serious injuries that could lead to disabilities and even death,” said Timothy Boumeester of Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Boumeester explained that during the car seat safety check, WHP partners with Safe Kids Wyoming where parents can have their child’s car seat checked by nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.

“We will also be discussing bike safety with children and fitting children with bike helmets for use when operating their bicycles,” he added.

Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department will be preparing hot dogs, donated by local businesses.

“Be prepared to have fun, and possibly a water fight,” Sweet said.
