The spring semester for Eastern Wyoming College Community Education is open for registration. Kim Conzelman, the Newcastle outreach director, is excited about the lineup of available opportunities.
“We have everything from self-help to cooking to art going on, Conzelman said.
“I’m especially happy to have Canine Good Citizen Classes and A New Year–A New You this spring,” she said.
According to Conzelman, those programs that focus on real day-to-day activities and issues are what bring in good participation from the community.
The five-week Canine Good Citizen Class is offered twice, Jan. 28-Feb. 25 and March 3-31. The class focuses on teaching good manners and obedience, instilling the values of responsible ownership and strengthening the bond between pet and owner. Registration deadline for this class is Tuesday, Jan. 14, for the first five sessions and Tuesday, Feb. 18, for the second five.
A New Year-A New You is a communitywide, 12-week fitness challenge. The course is a team participation effort with the focus on nutrition education, health and fitness activities and a “Healthy Habit” challenge every two weeks. If you are interested but are having trouble putting a team together, contact the EWC outreach office at (307) 746-3603. They are happy to help you put a team together. The class will be on Thursdays, Jan. 9-April 2. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, Jan. 7. Preregister at the outreach office phone number until Friday, Dec. 20. If you miss that date, you can leave a voice mail, or you can call Teresa Gross at (307) 746-4850.
Other classes Conzelman is excited about are some cooking classes, art classes and other health classes, but especially a driver’s education class. The class is intended for students, who will receive high school credit for taking this class. They will get 30 classroom hours and 18 vehicle hours for this course. Students must be 15 years or older and have a learner’s permit by Tuesday, March 17. Signup sheets are available at the outreach office. Class size is limited, so early signup is essential. The students who are signed up will receive their schedules before class begins.
The cooking classes include for cake decorating, small bite entertaining, cooking with coffee and several others. Art classes will include ink seascapes, welcome sign making and flowers in watercolor. A Sip-N-Paint Daisy Wine Bottle class will be held at the Newcastle Lodge and Convention Center. The adults-only class includes wine tasting and painting.
