Sometimes we agree

Dear Editor,

Don T. and I sometimes agree!   His proposal for a change in the way our state collects taxes from the mineral (coal and oil) industries makes sense.  He may derive benefit from that change and that’s OK.  Overall, benefit to the state makes it worthwhile.  Wind and solar will inevitably replace mineral energy.  They need to have their profit taxed to replace state income lost by the reducing of our reliance on coal and oil.   It is widely believed that high-income individuals have paid legislators to write tax laws to exempt them from a substantial amount of that liability.  Don’s proposal to tax that cohort would bring fairness back to the citizen as well as help fund state responsibilities.
