LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/6/24) – The University of Wyoming soccer team put plenty of offensive pressure on San Jose State on Sunday at the Madrid Sports Complex. Unfortunately, that didn’t result in a score.

The Cowgirls and Spartans finished in a 0-0 draw. That moves Wyoming to 3-4-5 on the season and 1-1-2 (5 points) in Mountain West Conference play, while the Spartans now hold a 0-8-4 overall mark and an 0-2-2 (2 points) record in league action.

“We got forward, but we didn’t test the goalkeeper as much as we needed to,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “We have to be more efficient in front of goal. We need to be hungrier in front of the net. Creating that many opportunities is only as good as wanting to score. But we can’t knock this game’s performance because we did well from a stat sheet perspective.”

Wyoming peppered San Jose State with 24 shots, however, only one-fourth of those tested Spartans’ keeper, Shayla Sugai. Many of those opportunities were produced via corner kicks, which the Cowgirls held a decided 12-1 advantage in.

Wyoming goalie, Haley Bartel, only needed to make one save for her fifth shutout of the season and sixth of her career. San Jose State recorded two shots Sunday.

Maddi Chance paced Wyoming with five shots. Maddie Burr ended the contest with four, Bedard had three, while Kiley Ballek, Taylor Brook, Hadley Linder, Raegan Richardson and Kylee (Bliss) Quilici Quain each fired a pair of shots.

The Cowgirls are back in action and back at home next week. They host No. 12 Utah State on Thursday at 3 p.m. before battling Boise State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be held at the Madrid Sports Complex.
