Soccer Drops Mountain West Conference Opener at Colorado College, 2-1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (9/26/24) – The University of Wyoming soccer team got off to a slow start Thursday in its Mountain West Conference opener at Colorado College and couldn’t recover. The Tigers held on for a 2-1 victory at Stewart Field.

The loss drops the Cowgirls to 2-4-3 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. The win moves Colorado College to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in league action.

Maddie Burr represented Wyoming’s one score. She netted her first-career goal in the 25th minute, which cut the Tigers’ advantage to 2-1.

Colorado College opened the scoring during the sixth minute. Brett Tsamasfyros netted a goal off a pass from Evie Biggs.

The Tigers doubled their lead in the 13th minute. Kendall Memoly scored unassisted to make it a 2-0 contest.

Wyoming peppered Colorado College, especially in the second half. The Cowgirls led in shots, 15-6 and held a decided 10-2 edge in the final 45 minutes.

Alyssa Bedard and Maddi Chance accounted for the most shots at four apiece. Two of Bedards’ were on frame while one of Chance’s tested Tigers’ goalkeeper, Regan Wallace. Burr also fired multiple shots, and both of them were on target.

Wyoming goalkeeper, Haley Bartel, logged a pair of saves. Her counterpart turned away five shots.

The Cowgirls remain on the road this weekend. They travel to Air Force on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at the Cadet Soccer Stadium.
