The Newcastle Dogies boys soccer team saw its limited action last week cut even shorter as weather and roster challenges continued to play a role in the young squad’s season.

Head coach Travis Thomas reported that Saturday’s scheduled contest was canceled due to low numbers, with only eight players eligible to compete.

Earlier in the week, the Dogies were able to get on the field for a scrimmage against Buffalo on Thursday, though that contest was also cut short as a spring snowstorm swept through the area.

Newcastle trailed 4-0 in the second half when swirling snow and strong gusts forced officials to call the game before its conclusion.

Despite the disruption, the Dogies continue to gain valuable experience while competing with a short roster and a JV-heavy lineup this season.

Thomas said he is encouraged by how competitive his team has been against upcoming opponents.

“I am looking forward to both of these matchups as we played both teams within one score in our first matchups,” he said.

The Dogies will travel to Worland on Friday before hosting Douglas on Saturday.
