COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 3, 2024) – The University of Wyoming swept the Mountain West Cross Country Athlete of the Week awards as senior Kylie Simshauser and junior Jacob White were named recipients in the season’s first weekly award on Tuesday. This is the third time in school history that the men and women swept the Athlete of the Week honors.

Simshauser was named Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career with a personal best performance in the 5k at the Wyoming Invite. Her time of 17:14.0 was a program and course record as well as 27 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Her performance led the way for a second-place team finish for the women, beating out the No. 26 nationally ranked Colorado team. Simshauser was the first Cowgirl to win the award since Katelyn Mitchem did so on Sept. 18, 2018.

White earned his second conference weekly award, last doing so on Sept. 6, 2022. His first-place performance at the Wyoming Invite was the fastest time at the meet since 2022 at 14:46.8, just 0.5 seconds off his 5k personal best. White also finished ahead of two 2023 Mountain West All-Conference Second Team honorees. His efforts led the Cowboys to a first-place team finish, ahead of the No. 20 nationally ranked Colorado men’s team.

This is the first time Wyoming swept the Athlete of the Week awards since Sept. 23, 2014, when Holly Page and Amos Brown did so after stellar performances at the Montana State Invite.

Wyoming cross country will run again on Sept. 20, at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
