SHIRLEY JOAN BOGNER

Shirley Joan Bogner, age 82, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away on Oct. 31, 2018, at the Seven Sister Living Center in Hot Springs.
Shirley was born on May 10, 1936, in Hot Springs to Gail and Viola (Rasmussen) Thompson.
Shirley was involved in a number of organizations including BPOE Does, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters. She also kept busy with bowling and started a neighborhood BUNCO club.
Shirley’s primary role was wife and mother. As a ranch wife she always had the lunches packed and took care of the animals when not canning, cooking or gardening. There was not a bigger Oelrichs Tiger fan than when any of her kids were participating in activities.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Gail Thompson and Viola Donnafield, and her husband, Joe Bogner of 55 years.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Philip (Genell) Bogner of Bismarck, N.D., and Glen (Rebecca) Bogner of Hot Springs; daughters, Eileen (Wayne) Vickers of Newcastle, Wyo., and Laura Porter of Hot Springs; brothers, John Donnafield (Bobbie Jo) of Morrison, Colo., Gene Donnafield of Sturgis, S.D., and Sam Thompson of Ballinger, Texas; sisters, Ramona White (Larry Joe) of Abilene, Texas, and Cindy Dickey of Ballinger; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation services were held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7. Christian Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 3 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs, with Fr. Grant Gerlach as celebrant. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery near Oelrichs, S.D.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Shirley’s name to benefit St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
