Sheridan property crime decreases, other crime increases for March and April

SHERIDAN (WNE) — Property crime decreased in Sheridan year over year in March, but violent crime, alcohol-related crime, drug cases and welfare checks increased slightly according to a crime data report from the Sheridan Police Department.
SPD Capt. Tom Ringley said the department did not see any crime out of the ordinary for March. April crime statistics are not available yet as of Thursday.
According to the report, property crime decreased by 40% with 40 total cases in March compared to a three-year average (2022-2024) of 67 cases. Aggravated assault increased almost 67% in March, with five total cases reported compared to an average of three cases.
SPD reported 41 alcohol-related arrests and 179 alcohol-involved cases — both 24% increases compared to the previous three years.
Similar to the February crime report, a total of 14 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests were made and the average reported blood alcohol content was .17% — which is more than double the illegal limit of .08%.
Drug seizures and cases increased 28% to 300% in March. More specifically, drug cases involving cocaine, heroine, speed or LSD increased 300%, with 12 cases in March. In comparison, the three-year average was three. Overall, drug arrests increased 42% with 95 arrests made this March compared to an average of 67 in the past three years for March.
According to Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez, DUIs remained consistent and scams decreased year over year in April.
Domestic assault and battery cases increased slightly with four cases reported — compared to one in March. Fraud/scam cases decreased 40% in April with six cases reported — 10 scam incidents were reported in February.
