SHERIDAN (WNE) — A Sheridan man has pleaded guilty of sexual exploitation of a child.

Cody Adsit, born in 1997, was facing eight counts of sexual exploitation of a child (child pornography). Per a plea agreement document, Adsit changed his plea to guilty on two of the charges during a change of plea hearing in 4th Judicial District Court on Feb. 5.

According to the plea agreement, in exchange for a plea of guilty to two of the charges, the six other charges will be dropped.

A sentence of five to eight years in prison will be recommended and run consecutively for each charge, meaning 10-16 years of total imprisonment could be argued, Sheridan County Prosecuting Attorney Dianna Bennett said.

According to court documents, between April 17 and April 23, 2025, Adsit received and/or distributed 30 to 50 files of child pornography through the Kik phone communication application.

Kik reported 50 files of apparent child pornography had been uploaded on their platform from two different accounts — run by Adsit.

On July 18, 2025, content from Adsit’s Kik accounts were reviewed, finding 1,559 images or videos that were explicitly sexual and/or pornographic in nature.

Sexual exploitation of a child is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not less than five years and not more than 12 years, a maximum fine of $10,000 or both. If the plea agreement is rejected, Adsit could face a maximum of 24 years in prison and a fine of $20,000.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 4 at 9:45 a.m. Adsit will remain in custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center until sentencing.
