SHELLY RAE ROBERTS

Nov. 4, 1964–Sept. 8, 2024

Shelly Rae Roberts, 59, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024 in Newcastle, Wyoming.

Shelly was born to Loren and Louise Roberts on Nov. 4, 1964 in Newcastle, where she attended school K–12, graduating in 1983.

Family was very important to Shelly; she loved her nephews Justin and Wade like her own. The competition she had with Wade in a cribbage game was unmatched. Score-keeping was a must. Justin’s game was backgammon, they both laughed as hard as they played. She loved kids and animals alike, she had a knack for taking care of people young and old.

Shelly worked hard her whole life. Her first job was working at the Old Mill Inn with her mother, where she learned her work ethic. She started with bussing tables and eventually ended up in the kitchen where she found her love for cooking.

Shelly’s favorite job came later in life when she moved to Colorado, landing a job at the Pepsi Center and Coors Field. This job influenced her love for the Colorado Rockies and of course there was always the Denver Broncos. She loved working any concert or event, but most of all working with numbers — that came easy to her. She loved the office work and excelled at it. Shelly made several friends there and surprised them often with homemade goodies.

She moved home to Newcastle in 2020, when COVID-19 shut down her job. Along with spending every minute with her mother and helping her sister at the motel, she loved baking, crochet, beading, gardening and spending hours fixing puzzles. Shelly was always up for a card game, board game or a movie. She even learned to drive the four-wheeler while helping Stacey with the horses.

Shopping was another pastime for her. She never missed an opportunity to stop at a dollar store or for an adventure with her best friend, Patty, and somehow always getting lost and coming home with a story of whose fault it was! Shelly had a smile that was contagious and she laughed with all of her heart. Being around her was always uplifting she could always make you smile. Shelly is greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.

Shelly is survived by her father, Loren Roberts; brother, Lloyd Roberts; sister, Stacey (Clint) Sieber; nephews, Justin (Nicole) Roberts and Wade Sieber; aunts, uncles and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Roberts; and her grandparents, William and Mamie Noldner and Lena and Jim Ross.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, in the Michael’s room at the Weston County Senior Center in Newcastle.

Friends may sign her online guestbook at blackhillsfuneralhome.com.
