CODY (WNE) — Impairment and speed are being investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol as contributing factors of a fatal crash between Meeteetse and  Thermopolis on May 16.

Wyoming State Troopers were notified of a single-vehicle rollover on Wyoming Highway 120 near milepost 26 at 12:45 am.

The WHP identified the fatality as Avery Heston, a 23-year-old male from Texas, an unrestrained passenger who was partially ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A 1996 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and ran off the roadway to the left (north). The driver overcorrected and slid across the lanes of travel and off the roadway to the right (south).

The vehicle then became airborne and rolled multiple times before coming to a rest on its passenger side.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with aggravated homicide by vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

No further details are available at this time.
