June 22, 1949–Oct. 25, 2025

Roger Vern Pollat, 76, of Newcastle, Wyoming, passed away on Oct. 25, 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born on June 22, 1949, in Hot Springs, South Dakota, to Wayne and Donna Pollat.

Roger grew up on the family ranch west of Newcastle, where he developed a lifelong love for the land and hard work.

He attended Fairview Country School, and later graduated from Newcastle High School in 1968.

Shortly after graduation, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army. He completed basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and proudly served two tours in Vietnam as part of Echo Recon, 199th Battalion. He was honorably discharged in January 1971.

In 1972, Roger married Bonnie Rogers, and together they raised four children, Tonya, Paul, Wayne, and Julie.

On Sept. 3, 1996, he married Patsy Jones, gaining two bonus children, Ardel and Dede Peterson.

Roger spent most of his life working with his hands: ranching, logging, welding and mechanical work. He was a man of grit and quiet strength, happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren or lost in a good book.

He is survived by his sister, Rhonda (Randy); his children, Paul, Wayne (Christina), Julie, Ardel (Shannon), and Dede; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Donna Pollat; his wife, Patsy; his brother, Steve; and his daughter, Tonya.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. at Weston County Senior Services center. Burial will take place at a later date on the family ranch.
