ROBERT F. RUMBOLZ & NORMA L. (HOYT) RUMBOLZ
ROBERT F. RUMBOLZ: Aug. 5, 1928–May 18, 2013
NORMA L. (HOYT) RUMBOLZ: July 31, 1928–April 1, 2026
Robert F. Rumbolz was born Aug. 5, 1928, to Earnest and Effie (Klotz) Rumbolz. He was educated at Ethan schools
and always had a great work ethic, which started on the family farm.
He married Norma L. Hoyt on April 16, 1948, and welcomed a son, Reg, on Nov. 24, 1950. Together they had many moves across western United States, always working various jobs. Family was a priority in their lives. Their biggest joy was the grandkids and later the great-grands during their formative years.
Norma was born July 31, 1928, to George and Thelma (Berry) Hoyt. She grew up on the family farm with two sisters. She graduated from Ethan High School along with the guy she would marry. She attended South Dakota State University, earning a teaching certificate and taught in a one-room rural school house.
Jobs and family became Robert and Norma’s way of life for many years. They were lucky to spend 60 years together until Bob’s passing May 18, 2013.
They moved to Newcastle, Wyoming, in 2004 to be close to family. Bob passed away May 18, 2013.
Norma later lived with Reg and Sharon since 2017. She loved being involved with the great-grandkids until her health declined and she moved to Weston County Manor in October 2025. She enjoyed the various activities held at the Manor, along with daily visits from family.Â
She passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026. May their lives be an example of true faith and love.
They are survived by their son, Reg and wife, Sharon of Newcastle; granddaughter, Brittany (James) Osborne; great-grandkids, Autumn Mills of Gillette, Wyoming, Cameron (Chloe) Mills and Jayden Osborn of Newcastle; two sisters, Helen Mohr of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Barbara Schlaffman of Mitchell, South Dakota.
Preceding them in death were Ernest and Effie Rumbolz, George and Thelma Joyt, Ernie Jr and Mary Ann, James and Nancy Rumbolz, Donalee Rumbolz; grandson, Berry Rumbolz; brothers-in-law, Dean Mohr and James Schlaffman; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a slew of devoted friends and neighbors.
Services for Robert and Norma will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Sunset Memorial in Mitchell.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer,
South Dakota.
